Drill Machine for a Concrete Wall: Which Bosch to Buy, GSB or GBH?

The cheapest Bosch rotary hammer costs less than the big impact drills people buy for concrete.

Updated 27 October 2026 · 6 min

The short answer. For a few holes up to 10–13 mm in brick or plaster, a Bosch GSB impact drill is enough — the GSB 600 costs ₹2,912. For a concrete or RCC wall, or holes every day, buy a GBH rotary hammer: the GBH 220 costs ₹5,055 and drills 4–22 mm in concrete. Prices include 18% GST, checked 27 Oct 2026.

“Drill machine” covers two different tools. A GSB is an impact drill: a normal chuck, light, cheap, and good at brick, plaster, wood and steel. A GBH is a rotary hammer — the hilti machine — which takes SDS-plus bits and is built for concrete. Why they behave so differently is explained in rotary hammer or impact drill. This page is about which one to buy, and what it costs.

Start with the wall

  • Brick or plaster, a few holes, up to 10 mm: GSB 450 (₹2,695) or GSB 600 (₹2,912).
  • Concrete, RCC, or anchors bigger than about 10 mm: GBH 220 (₹5,055).
  • Concrete every day, anchors from 8 to 16 mm: GBH 2-26 RE (₹13,926) or GBH 2-28 DV (₹17,476) — Bosch rate both best in that range.
  • Wood and metal as well as walls: a GSB. Its normal chuck takes the bits you already own.

Bosch rate the GSB 600 to 13 mm in concrete, and the GSB 16 RE and GSB 20-2 RE to 16 and 20 mm. Those are maximums for an occasional hole, not a working day. For a dozen holes in a brick wall to hang shelves, run conduit or fit a geyser, a GSB is the right tool and the cheaper one.

These hit with a measured blow — 2 J on the GBH 220, 3.2 J on the GBH 2-28 DV — which is why they go through concrete without you leaning on them. Bosch list three modes on the GBH 220: hammer drilling, plain drilling and chiselling, so it will also chip a few tiles or open a switch box. GBH 220, 2-26 or 2-28 — how to choose.

What the price list shows

The GBH 220 rotary hammer costs ₹5,055 — ₹2,143 more than a GSB 600, and less than the GSB 16 RE (₹8,400) or GSB 20-2 RE (₹12,774). If you are about to buy one of the bigger impact drills because the job is concrete, the entry rotary hammer is both cheaper and the right tool.

Questions buyers ask

Which drill machine is best for a concrete wall?

A rotary hammer. The GBH 220 (₹5,055) for occasional work; the GBH 2-26 RE (₹13,926) or GBH 2-28 DV (₹17,476) if you drill concrete every day.

Can the GSB 600 drill concrete?

Bosch rate it to 13 mm in concrete, so a few small holes, yes. For RCC, anchors or many holes, it is the wrong tool and it wears bits fast.

What is the price of a 750 watt drill machine?

The Bosch GSB 16 RE is 750 W and costs ₹8,400 including GST. Bosch rate it to 16 mm in concrete.

Can a GBH drill wood and metal too?

The GBH 220 has a drilling-only mode, but it takes SDS-plus bits. If wood and steel are a regular part of your work, a GSB with a normal chuck is the easier tool to keep alongside it.

Which bits do I need?

A GSB takes ordinary round-shank masonry bits in its chuck. A GBH takes SDS-plus bits only. We sell machines, not bits.

Is there a battery drill for walls?

The GSB 183-Li (1-battery kit, ₹7,471) drills into masonry, per Bosch. For concrete without a cord, use an 18V rotary hammer — see the rotary hammer price list.

Do I get a GST bill?

Yes, on every order, and prices already include 18% GST. Delivery is charged at actual cost, on top, and confirmed on the call.
